Using knowledge of compositional elements along with color, lighting, and contrast to turn the "ordinary" or "ugly" into something beautiful.
With this lesson we talked about how color can enhance our photos by following color theory. We researched a variety of photographers and how they used color to create emotion as well as how to use color as the focal point. Students were then needed to photograph compositions pertaining to Complimentary, Analogous, and Monochromatic Color Schemes.
Students were to look for leading lines that draw the viewer's attention to a specific focal point or that creates movement and leads the viewer's eyes off of the page. These lines include vertical, horizontal, diagonal, s-curve, and converging.
Students are to look for basic shapes in everyday life. Once the shape of the object is found they need to crop in tight to transform the shape into an abstract design.
Students were asked to recreate a famous art historians work trying to mimic their subjects, style, color, and lighting using photography.
This is one of our first lessons. We talk about good contrast and lighting within images. In order to ensure students have a full range of value each of their photographs are converted to black and white.
In addition, they are to use the composition element of the Rule of Thirds. |
