‘Paint A Plow’ Gives Children Chance to Decorate Plows
City of Cedar Rapids Public Works Department has invited area schools or daycares to participate in “Paint a Plow” and decorate a City plow blade, which will be used during winter snow removal.
The Paint a Plow program allows children the opportunity to see a snow plow up close, paint the inside of the blade, and gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of snow removal operations. The painted blades are then used on snow routes near the school or daycare which decorated the blade, giving children the chance to catch their artwork in action as crews keep Cedar Rapids’ streets clear of snow.
Paint a Plow will run November 3 to December 5, 2014.
Public Works crews use 94 plows to help uncover Cedar Rapids’ 1,475 lane miles over the winter, typically digging out after a significant snow event in less than 12 hours.
Jefferson High School students have signed up for one of the larger plows that the city had to offer. Utilizing the shape of the plow we went with our beloved J-Hawk mascot "Jeffy" as the theme.
